Round 1 (British Qualifier 1 / Welsh Championship)
Thirteen drivers attended the opening round of the 2018 LFS Bangers Grades Championship tonight at the classic Blackwood Car Park circuit. The meeting doubled up as the Welsh Championship wildcard qualifier, and had some excellent racing as well as some solid hitting, with the triple ramp allcomers the most destructive of the lot! We had a returning driver in 136 Ade (formerly Junior) who hasn't raced on here in a very long time, certainly before I took over as league admin.
British Champion Rik once again restarted his march to the title with a near-dominant display. Winning 4 heats, an Allcomers and crucially the Welsh Championship wildcard race, the Dutchman has once again set himself as the target for the rest of the drivers to chase, and given how good he is at winning races, he'll be a hard one to catch! Ade marked his return to LFS Bangers with a strong showing, claiming two heats as well as a pair of 2nds AND 3rds, with one of the latter in the final. Miniman rounded out the top 3 with by winning the DD and finishing 2nd twice. In the Allcomers, all 4 races had different winners with Michal, Cap and Jam also claiming wins with #997.
Top 10 scored in heats and final. Four Allcomers were also held. Drivers in italics finished but did not score points. 5 points went to the DD winner.

Round 2 (British Qualifier 2 / Scottish Championship)
Fourteen drivers made the trip up north to Cowdenbeath for the second round of this year's Grades Championship. As with the other qualifiers for the British Championship, this was also the Scottish Championship wildcard for May's showpiece. It was a more subdued affair compared to the last round, with a lot more rodding and no silly ACs but the hits still went in thick and fast. 312 Mr. T-Bone made a welcome return after a period away with hardware issues.
Amazingly, present British champion Rik IMPROVED on his remarkable Round 1 performance by dropping just 12 POINTS over the meeting from a maximum of 85 available; four heat wins, the final and the DD were only dampened by two 2nds and a failure to score in Heat 3. Having won the Scottish Championship, his wildcard place has therefore moved to the final's second place driver, who once again was 2016 2 Litre World Champion Pepino, who picked up a heat of his own. Tilson rounded out the top three with an impressive evening, bagging a heat as well as a brace of 2nds and 3rds. Miniman was the other points race winner of the meeting, while Michal was the bread to Cap's filling in an Allcomers sandwich, with the Czech driver taking a brace to the current World and Points Champion's sole victory.
Top 10 scored in heats and final. Four Allcomers were also held. Drivers in italics finished but did not score points. 5 points went to the DD winner.

Round 3 (British Qualifier 3 / Irish Championship)
Numbers fell for the first time this year with only nine drivers travelling across the Irish Sea to Nutts Corner for round 3 of the 2018 Grades Championship. As with the other British Championship qualifiers, this represented the Irish wildcard for the main event in May. Although the meeting started off slow, the action soon picked up and there was some fantastic racing and hitting, including a remarkable 5 car train in heat 5!
Although it was the third round in a row that saw a Dutchman win it, in a turn-up for the books it was NOT Rik that came out on top but instead Colin triumphed thanks to three heat wins, a third in the final and crucially the DD, where he won by default after Ade's clutch died. #997 and #136 also claimed wins, with the former claiming a heat, the Irish Championship (making it 3 out of 3 Championships) and the first Allcomers, while Ade picked up a heat and claimed the Irish Championship wildcard with his second in the final. Jam, Miniman and Cap all won races as well, with the former a heat and the latter two an Allcomers each.

Round 4 (British Qualifier 4 / English Championship)
A total of 10 drivers (only 9 were scored) attended the fourth Grades meeting of the season and the final British Championship qualifier held at Standlake. The Oxfordshire venue was chosen as the English wildcard representative for the big meeting at Mildenhall in May. The wide circuit combined with the low field meant that again the meeting began slowly, but picked up and provided some great racing and wrecking.
With Rik absent from tonight's meeting, this guaranteed a different winner of a British Qualifier final. However, it was to be one people didn't expect as Mr. Perfect Jr. claimed his first LFS Bangers title in a superb final performance that saw him overtaken by former European Champion Jam, but both were on the end of two big shots from the returning Bokito (who came back to LFS Bangers action after a period away) with the Belgium residing Dutchman recovering first to get the final wildcard spot. It wasn't to be all bad for Jam though as he amazingly joint won the meeting with Pepino; #616 had two heat wins while the former 2 Litre World Champion had just the one heat win. Tilson also had 2 heat wins as well as an Allcomers with Michal claiming the other heat and the second Allcomers. Cap won the opening Allcomers with Shane making it 3 DD victories in a row across all meetings.

Round 5 (World Qualifier 1)
10 drivers attended the opening 2 Litre World Final Qualifier and it was a very welcome return for the Westhill Oval to the LFS Bangers calendar after a number of years away, having been phased out by real-life recreations. The racing on the tight oval was excellent and some brilliant hits went in on the oval's posts too.
For the first time in the 2 Litres season, the title was won outright by a British driver. That driver was 385 Jonesy, who was making his return to the graded championship following his return to LFS Bangers. The real-life banger racer pulled off an amazing set of heat results, winning 4 and finishing 2nd in the other two. A vital 4th in the final secured his meeting win as he held off a Northern Irishman and a Dutchman who tied for second in Cole and Rik respectively. #911 claimed two heats and had three 2nds, including one in the final behind #997, who then defeated teammate Pepino in the DD to finish joint second. The three Allcomers all had different winners in Cap in the 2 Litres, Michal in the Unlims and Jam in the Micros; the latter two had uncharacteristically poor evenings as the Czech driver barely finished a race and the former European Champion decided to liven things up by going on oppo!

Round 6 (World Qualifier 2)
11 drivers made the trip to Ipswich for the second 2 Litre World Final qualifying round and the sixth graded meeting of the season. Unfortunately due to the way some drivers left before others joined, we didn't get all 11 racing at once but that didn't matter as the racing and wrecking on display was top quality from everyone who participated.
We had a rare joint winner of the meeting, with one predictable and one less so! The predictable joint winner was Cap, who despite not winning a single race tonight strode to the top spot thanks to the even split of 2nds and 4ths in the heat combined with 6th in the final. The unpredictable joint winner was Dumbo, who had an incredible surge late on in the meeting (no doubt helped by being the sole white top in the field ) picking up the final and a heat alongside a trio of third places. Jam bounced back from his bottom of the table showing last time with two heat wins and the MRT Allcomers to finish 3rd, with Looney claiming 4th thanks to a heat win of his own. Northern Irishman Joshua picked up 2 heats and 2 Allcomers and a second in the final but could only finish 6th overall. Big wrecker Brett won the DD, but not much else!

Re: 2018 Graded Meetings Results
Round 7 (World Qualifier 3)
12 drivers ventured to the West Midlands for the third 2 Litre World Final qualifying round at Birmingham Wheels Raceway, which doubled as the seventh graded meeting of 2018. Despite the track's unusual banked surface, this had no impact on the action as it provided both superb racing and crashing throughout the evening. A notable returnee to the league was Dutchman 312 Mr. T-Bone, who appeared for the first time since February.
In an incredibly tight race for the meeting victory, just 2 points separated the top 3. The winner was the most consistent driver out of the three as current British champion Pepino came out on top thanks to 4 2nd places and the vital final victory. Reigning World and Points champion Cap claimed the last heat, the Allcomers and a titanic DD battle with Brett that nearly hit the time limit, but could only get a 2nd in the previous heat and a 3rd in the final, while former European champion Jam won three heats in a row and got 2nd in the final, but didn't pick up another top 3 finish. Current European champion Michal won two heats and the third Allcomers but a poor last heat which saw him finish 9th meant he ended up 4th on the night. Colin was the other finisher with the first Allcomers but couldn't string anything together in the points races, a 3rd his best finish.
Top 10 scored in heats and final. Three Allcomers were also held. 5 points went to the DD winner.

Round 8 (World Qualifier 4)
10 drivers made the trip to the capital and Wimbledon Stadium for the final 2 Litre World Final Qualifier, which was also the eighth graded meeting of 2018. One notable competitor making a last dash attempt to qualify for the WF was 760 Ryano, who competed at the Big Reunion back in April but amazingly had not raced in a points meeting since 2016! 136 Ade also made a return after a brief spell away. The most iconic venue of them all provided some truly remarkable racing and wrecking action which would have surely been even better with a few more racers.
It was a near faultless performance once again from the former multiple British champion Rik as he dropped just SIX points across the evening: two thirds in the opening two heats and a second in the final were the only places he failed to net maximum points as he won 4 heats straight and came out on top in the DD to pick up 79 points. Colin ended the night second thanks to his opening heat win and the key final victory that saw him secure his spot on the World Final grid. Ryano's return saw him win the second Allcomers (held in the new NEC-style short oval) and finish third on the night, while Cap sacrificing second to thunder in the stricken car of Jon in the opening heat didn't prove costly as he secured pole position for the 2 Litre World Final in September and won the first Allcomers too.

Round 9 (European Qualifier 1)
The hard-hitting Speedway Emmen was the venue for the first European qualifier and ninth graded meeting overall this season. Nine drivers attended tonight and despite the lower numbers than Pepino's reunion meeting, it still had some great racing and wrecking.
Newly-crowned World Champion Rik set down a terrifying marker in this opening round, dropping just TEN points across the evening as he won the final, two heats and finished no lower than third in any race. Shane finished second despite not winning a points race (only claiming an Allcomers) thanks to a triple of 2nds including one in the final. Dutchmen Colin and Miniman ended the night joint third having won a heat each, with Jam rounding out the top 5 and had two Allcomers victories. Looney claimed a brace of heats but only finished the night sixth due to an early departure and poor results in the rest of the races.

Re: 2018 Graded Meetings Results
Round 10 (European Qualifier 2)
Before I commence tonight's write-up, I must apologise to the rest of the racers in attendance for the behaviour of two new drivers who joined the league to race in this meeting. These drivers were 269 Swift (from Denmark) and 629 Captain (from Croatia). While it is expected for newcomers to not be as hardwired regarding the rules as the regulars are, this pair showed very little intent to learn and subsequently follow the rules and were ejected from the meeting by Looney after being told not to rejoin the race and then doing so. Swift was the only one of the two who scored points, but he has been removed from the results because of the kick.
Onto the meeting itself, and the ditch danger of Boerhaar saw nine drivers (excluding the two idiots above) competing in the tenth graded meeting of the season, which also doubled up as the second European qualifier. The unusual oval caught out all the drivers at some point, with the first heat only having four finishers! It's a bit of a shame more drivers weren't in attendance because it's a very good track.
It was another Dutchman who took the round, but surprisingly it was not Rik! In fact it was rising star Colin winning his second graded round of the season and his first since March! #66 claimed the meeting final and the last heat as well as 4 2nds and a 3rd to come out of the meeting with a brilliant 74 points. Shane claimed three heats, the first Allcomers and the DD but finished 8 points behind. On what was a poor night for the recently crowned World Champion, Rik still claimed a heat and the second Allcomers to finish third. Looney was the only other winner on the night but despite a first, second and two thirds, these were his only finishes and ended the meeting joint 5th with WCW teammate Brett and behind Northern Irish WCW member Josh in 4th overall.

Round 11 (European Qualifier 3)
The eleventh and final 2 Litre Grades meeting of the season (doubling up as the third and final European Championship qualifier) took place at the speed demon's haven of Ter Apel (Short). While some quick laps were recorded, both bends provided some incredible opportunities for big hits and these were duly taken by nearly everyone in attendance. #25 Josh T. was a debutant tonight and produced some fine racing indeed, with a second in the final his highest placing.
However, it was another grades debutant who stole the show and proof that Moat genetics are probably some of the most consistent racing wise as Sam Moat emulated Shane's achievements from years gone by with a super showing. Two heat wins and the final were included in his haul of 72 points, finishing no lower than 4th in any of the points races! Cole ended up 7 points behind in second with two heats and two Allcomers victories, while Colin didn't win a race but still had a string of consistent top 5 finishes to finish third and more significantly claimed pole for the European Championship next month, gaining 7 points on Shane when the gap was only 2. Rik won the last heat and DD in a collection of 51 points to further secure his place on top of the table; he can still amass an incredible 600+ points with a top 3 finish in the Euro Championship race.
